Will Disney Upset Netflix?

Disney reports their earnings on the 11th of this month, or in just a couple of days. Some are feeling optimistic that Disney will be within reach of 100 million subscribers when that day arrives. Most caution that Disney will not have reached 100 million subscribers, but for fans of the company, just the fact that it is possible is ridiculous.

The streaming portion of Disney is still fairly new compared to the reigning champ Netflix. However, Netflix has had some issues with its subscriptions over the past year. The company has managed to come back because of some of the shows they have decided to stream. Netflix has picked up the rights to some of Julia Quinn’s historical romance novels. As a fan of Julia Quinn’s books, readers like myself are loving it! We often see fantasy novels like Lord Of The Rings, Game of Thrones, and other science fiction books brought to life. However, there seems to be a lacking of good historical shows in orbit. So, now that Netflix has reached out to those readers, they have been able to gain a larger group of people who were having to watch older shows to quench their thirst.

So, if Netflix has all this goodness going on, what can Disney do about it? Well, while Netflix has us lusting ladies ready to eat our popcorn and binge on our favorite romances, Disney has Marvel fans and Star Wars fans! While I think Netflix will still be on top for the near future, I cannot be sure about the upcoming years. It will be interesting to see what the earnings report has to say about Disney and the strength of its streaming services.

If it hits 100 million, Netflix better stay on the lookout. They might have to be more selective in their programming and not let another issue like the one that hit last year repeat. If you are wondering what I’m talking about, I am talking about a show called Cuties. It was disturbing. I thought people were just being Karens until I started watching the show myself. I quickly turned it off and put Netflix in timeout for a while until I could get over being upset that they would have something like that on their network.

It looks like we are gearing up to watch a battle of the titans when it comes to streaming, anyone want popcorn?
