President Trump and the first lady Test Positive for Covid-19

It was bound to happen at some point, due to the lackadaisical attitude regarding COVID-19, President Donald Trump and his wife are now positive for the virus. There are a lot of feeling flooding the country tonight. Some of the feelings are of fear and sorrow, while others are unremorsefully pleased with finding out the President has now contracted COVID-19.

Some of us fall into the next category, which wants to see him live to learn from his past mistakes. Having a family member with COVID-19 is hard. You count days until their quarantine ends because you want to make sure they make it out alive. I find myself thinking about my sister all of the time and calling or texting every day. While it is understandable why some people would feel conflicted about their feelings regarding Trump’s fight with COVID, we still must not forget that he is someone’s father.

I hope this is a lesson for the people who blindly follow Trump. One of his downfalls was not wearing a mask often enough. He made fun of Biden on Tuesday night about always wearing a mask. Well, that mask is the one chance you have at slowing the spread of COVID-19. I cannot say it will end it, but it will limit the number of cases.

While a lot of us are thinking about Trump, I cannot help but think about the people at the rallies. Someone had COVID at one of the events that Trump visited, and we know that someone managed to spread it within the White House. How many others caught the virus? As a typical member of society, we do not have money or power to get us the best medical attention for this virus. However, some of us are still flirting with the chance of getting sick by going to a large gathering.

We are living in a difficult time. Our circle of trusted leaders is at an all-time low. At this point, the only thing we can do is listen to the person who seems to care about our wellbeing the most. I saw tweets from Trump tonight that included a seriousness in his stance on COVID, which has been absent in prior months.

I am glad to see he is taking it seriously, but part of me wonders if it is serious because now he is infected. Nevertheless, he is the leader of our nation, and I will pray for him tonight. He needs to get better so he can witness the fear and sadness of being separated from his loved ones. Perhaps then he will understand why COVID-19 is an issue that still needs attention.

New developments that need studying by the government would be traces of COVID-19 turning up in bodies of water. Another needed answer would be to understand the mutation that makes it more contagious. These are just two things that our government should be looking at today and over the next few months. https://www.foxnews.com/health/traces-coronavirus-lake-superior-water

So, he needs to get better and trace this virus. We need a real reaction to help us understand the steps we need to take to stay safe.

Trump’s Second Term Could Give Birth To Less SSI For Many

An article came out in Forbes on 8/23/2019 detailing how Republicans aim to get Trump to cut Social Security and Medicare. We have known for a while that these programs have been on the brink and if Trump gets a second term we might see some real movement in revamping them system.

Many people use Social Security and for a large percentage of people, it is their main source of income. Due to our national debt nearing 21 trillion dollars the government will have to take drastic measures to balance the books. At this point the Republican Senators are hinting at a much needed overhaul.

We know that the system is currently flawed. In prior articles, I wrote about people who used the Social Security system as a way to scam benefits. The problem comes into play when an entire country gets caught up in a whirlpool of drama because some people are cheating the system. I would caution leaders to be thoughtful when dealing with this situation. Perhaps, the overhaul is needed in the screening of people trying to apply for services.

I do not want to see our elderly people thrown to the wolves over circumstances that they cannot control. I would like to see tougher guidelines for parents placing their children on SSI and the use of preschools if the children are able to attend them. Sadly, I have seen people get diagnoses for their children as young as 5 years old. I worked a case involving a mother who had all three of her children diagnosed and was currently awaiting her diagnoses. When I questioned her about working, she stated that she wanted to take care of her children. Ironically enough, she continued to leave them with other people.

When I worked in mental health, I saw these situations all the time. People would come in trying to perfect mental illness because their loved ones told them that hospitalizations were the way to go. We have to break this cycle. Eventually they would learn just enough information to get their benefits. After three or four stays at a mental health hospital you learn all you need to know about the signs and symptoms of mental illness. It truly is sad that the scammers are mixed in with the people who really need the services. In the end it just overburdens the system and forces unwanted results on those who really need services.

I am sure we will hear more on this story in the near future. I have mixed emotions about slashing benefits that help the elderly. However, I am tired of seeing people take advantage of loopholes. Yet, I cannot help but wonder how much this current administration has helped to add to our debt situation and if slashing these programs will stop the bleed.

Measure The Authenticity Of The Messages From Politicians

This has been a crazy week, but as it ends, I want you to do something for yourself. I want you to start measuring the messages that you hear from the people who are trying to gain your votes. Think about their cities, states, districts, and how their citizens are fairing under their guidance. Look at the type of laws they are working on while they are serving in Congress. Are they running for office and leaders in high crime areas? We would want to see bills that would help reduce crime and poverty in those areas. You would also want to see them introducing bills that help with healthcare, education and criminal justice reform depending on your location.

Are they good at reaching out to people and lending a helping hand to help bridge relationships? Also Google their history to see if they have ever tried to get laws passed that actually helped people in their areas. Take California for example, it has the highest number of homelessness in our nation. If a candidate represents that area, I would expect to see bills introduced with the intent to get the people off the streets. If not, I would conclude that they didn’t care, and would give my vote to someone else.

This week one Congresswoman will try to do away with measures that will help to keep people safe. As a former investigator, I can tell you some areas need all the safety they can get. Depending on the location, cops might not come to the rescue. Some apartment complexes were seeing all of their children placed into CPS custody because of the activity in those complexes. These families were surrounded by drugs, drug dealers, and prostitution. Those areas would really benefit from extra security measures such as facial recognition upon entry. It would cut down on rape, drugs, and sexual abuse because often times I do not think the apartments run good criminal background checks, if they run them at all.

We want to make sure people are passing good laws that will help our neighborhoods and the children that play or should be playing inside of them. So, clear your mind and think about what’s best for YOUR family. At the end of the day, we vote in the people who either help to bring harmony to our cities or the ones that help to destroy them. Listen and research because your future is too important to risk.
