Craving Normalcy During COVID-19

It’s so easy right now to let your guard down and pretend like things are normal. We see stores opening, people running to the beach and other things that resemble a country free of our current threat. We turn on the TV and our leaders are all chanting about getting back to normalcy and getting this economy back to a healthy state. However, privately they are talking about how we are still walking in the shadows of death.

It is enough to run a person mad. We are living in such a contradiction in regards to what happens next. This week I found out that the Taco Bell that we ordered food from within the past few weeks is now temporarily closed because a worker tested positive for COVID-19. Even if you try to be safe, there’s always the chance of the unknown slipping in. I think about the Ubereat’s drivers who have picked up from that eatery and other eateries. How do you contain something like a virus especially after the protective measures have been relaxed?

Then you hear the president talking about more death and of course our governor talking about how opening up will cause more causes of COVID-19 and you wonder what is life worth to those at the top? Are we only worth the amount of money we can bring in? One of our news stations is reporting that we now have a 911 center that is currently undergoing testing for COVID-19. Some of the workers have tested positive, will a large majority undergoing testing. https://www.tdtnews.com/news/central_texas_news/article_48dd8068-8b01-11ea-8228-8f1d7b96c4ec.html

Do you know how small our county is? Do you know how damaging it would be for any city within our county to come down with an outbreak of COVID-19 in their emergency response systems? When these politicians talk about the threat of hospitals being over run with COVID-19, they do not bring up other essential services like police departments, 911 control centers, or fire departments. Unless you are diligent in searching the events that take place in your areas, you will never get a real idea of what’s going on.

I beg you to use daily Google checks for your areas, use the tool tab to narrow the search down to 24 hours. Do not leave it up to someone tainted by politics to dictate your movements in regards to safety. While we might be thirsting for getting back to normal, normal might never be the normal we used to know. We have to remain watchful, and make sure we are not in the number of people that will be causalities on this war on finance. Do what you must, but understand that you can be here today and quarantined tomorrow. Stay safe, and wash those hands.

Update: Are We Ready For The Coronavirus

About a month ago, I posted this article about the Coronavirus. At that time it was mainly in China unlike today. I would like to once again call attention to the video, and listen to what this young man states. I think it is very important to hear and understand why this virus moved so quickly. Nations need to learn from the mistakes of China. We are looking at a near global outbreak today. Unless our governments take a firm step towards quarantining the sick, we could be looking at a situation like other countries.

Right now the Coronavirus virus has caused quite a scare in many nations. While many of us are hearing about the virus for the first time, it appears to be very similar MERS-CoV. Back in 2013 a series or articles were written about the MERS-CoV virus.

We know that MERS stands for Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome. And from reports all over the news outlets, we are seeing that this virus looks like the flu on crack. There are a number of articles in the Guardian that talk about the epidemiology of the virus MERS-CoV which sounds very similar to Coronavirus. Read the articles below to see the comparison.

Will this virus be able to be contained before it truly becomes a pandemic? Have we learned how to properly protect ourselves since the Ebola outbreak? Perhaps the biggest ordeal involves finding a solution to treat people without spreading the virus. These types of viruses cause mass fear due to their RO number.

The RO number is the amount of people the viruses can effect. Simply put some viruses are able to spread faster and are able to effect more people. This was the fear with the hospital that treated Thomas Eric Duncan. It took Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital a while to recover after the incident. I recall going there months after just because the wait was super short due to the lingering fear.

In this video a young man who claims to be from the city at the center or the outbreak tells his ordeal. He also talks about how the virus is currently giving China a run for it’s money. Have some of China’s practices inadvertently helped to create more cases due to an increased amount of people flowing into the hospitals? Can they learn how to contain the virus like Dallas or is Wuhan too large and problematic?

Measure The Authenticity Of The Messages From Politicians

This has been a crazy week, but as it ends, I want you to do something for yourself. I want you to start measuring the messages that you hear from the people who are trying to gain your votes. Think about their cities, states, districts, and how their citizens are fairing under their guidance. Look at the type of laws they are working on while they are serving in Congress. Are they running for office and leaders in high crime areas? We would want to see bills that would help reduce crime and poverty in those areas. You would also want to see them introducing bills that help with healthcare, education and criminal justice reform depending on your location.

Are they good at reaching out to people and lending a helping hand to help bridge relationships? Also Google their history to see if they have ever tried to get laws passed that actually helped people in their areas. Take California for example, it has the highest number of homelessness in our nation. If a candidate represents that area, I would expect to see bills introduced with the intent to get the people off the streets. If not, I would conclude that they didn’t care, and would give my vote to someone else.

This week one Congresswoman will try to do away with measures that will help to keep people safe. As a former investigator, I can tell you some areas need all the safety they can get. Depending on the location, cops might not come to the rescue. Some apartment complexes were seeing all of their children placed into CPS custody because of the activity in those complexes. These families were surrounded by drugs, drug dealers, and prostitution. Those areas would really benefit from extra security measures such as facial recognition upon entry. It would cut down on rape, drugs, and sexual abuse because often times I do not think the apartments run good criminal background checks, if they run them at all.

We want to make sure people are passing good laws that will help our neighborhoods and the children that play or should be playing inside of them. So, clear your mind and think about what’s best for YOUR family. At the end of the day, we vote in the people who either help to bring harmony to our cities or the ones that help to destroy them. Listen and research because your future is too important to risk.

When The Internet Became One Big Neighborhood

When we think about community, we often think about the people in our neighborhood. We think about the closeness, likeness, and struggles we face together. We see the people down the street and place the neighbor label on them which makes us look a little longer if things appear out of place in their departure. We assign ownership to the places that are deemed precious near our houses which are often placed within our neighborhoods.

Yesterday, for some of us, our neighborhoods grew a lot larger. We mentally adopted a teenager that was assaulted by a group of girls and something magical took place. It just takes a few positive voices and things can start turning. Yesterday while we all struggled to keep #JUSTICEFORJANISE trending something became crystal clear around the 5th hour. Nobody was giving up on finding this little girl.

We were all picking up our internet torches and wading through the pool of concern. Tweets went out to Trump supporters, Obama supporters and many more people, and they did not fall flat. All hearts reacted! Soon the concern was trending all over the United States with concern flowing into other countries. While we weren’t able to grab the attention of those in office, we were able to grab attention to someone more important.

We were able to make our case to the people and the people formed an online haven of love. I’m in Texas, but it didn’t stop me from caring. Others were from other states, but it didn’t stop them from sharing. Brave friends like @D4MURE, @sharii41886239, @lissa_ajana and @kiologyz created the perfect search for their friend. While things might not be over for the young lady in the video, I do believe she will now find that she has a nation of support behind her. It just took a handful of friends with the courage of an Army with the intent of bringing their friend home.

Now the healing will begin and let’s hope yesterday isn’t forgotten because we stood as one big family with no concern over difference, just the connection of love. Love really is the key.
