Decorating On Half!

Decorating On Half!

When I first started this blog I had just moved into this house with multiple rooms to try to furnish. If some of you are new to my blog which means you have been following me less than a year, you recall my story. If not I will do a quick refresher. My family basically went from an income of over 100000 a year to almost half of that with hopes of zeroing in on what we deemed as most important which was family.

We didn’t really downsize in the house because we couldn’t, but we had to find a cheaper way of decorating the house. We moved into this house about 1 year and four months ago. At that time we had 3.5 empty rooms which would need to be furnished at some point in the future. This is how we managed to update our house on a budget using sales and The Dollar General. We took three major areas inside our house and turned them into purpose driven rooms.

Due to the house being so large, finding furniture was a really big issue. Now that we were on a tighter budget we would have to pay special attention to sales and stores. One of the big reasons I gave up my job was because I wanted to be there for the girls. As an investigator I spent hours away from home which resulted in many 16 to 18 hour days. So, we decided that we would create a room for fun time. The room would be a central location or like a mini hub within the house.

We managed to make sure that one of us is always facing the children.

The person in the corner is able to look into the kitchen and keep an eye on my 13 yr old’s door while the person on the other side is able to keep an eye on the area my 17 yr old would be emerging from. I like to pay attention to faces. If someone isn’t in a good mood, I want to be the first one to notice it. One of the big issues I ran into when I was an investigator was not being able to notice the simple stuff with my children because I was never home. The girls were miserable because they had an absent mom. I tried to push expensive phones and trips ever so often their way, but it didn’t really help. It didn’t hit home just how miserable they were until I found out that my 13 yr old was self mutilating. So, now that I am home, my main focus is on my girls.

With all of that said, we call this location the hub area of our home. We are still looking to upgrade the table. Finding the perfect computer table isn’t easy when there are three computers in the house. We do not believe in computers being in the rooms, so until we can find a table, the dining table is the temporary home.

This is the real dining table. Someone needs to tell my husband that the picture needs to be centered!!! Not really! I did it.

So, for those of you who might be thinking oh my gosh she traded her eating table for computers! Never fear, here’s the table, right here! We managed to get it on sale from a local furniture store. I like the idea of pubs and this table kind of reminds me of Obrien’s Irish Pub down the street. So, I managed to capture it for my home!

Take notice of the dog gate because it is awesome. I needed something large enough and long enough to keep my dogs out of the guest entertaining area. It was embarrassing having to always explain tears and rips caused by my four legged babies, so when we got new furniture I had to hit Amazon up for a dog gate. Heck, I didn’t even know that gates came in any size other than for a small door, so when I found there were gates large enough to protect two doorways, I did a major happy dance. This means I do not have to explain anything else, or deal with stains on my carpet. Carpet keeps odors in so keep that in mind if you are thinking about getting a new place to live and you are a pet owner.

This shows a better picture of the dog gate. It even matches my furniture. It is large enough to keep my middle size dog from climbing over, but it isn’t 100 percent perfection. He has knocked it over once because it wasn’t positioned the right way. I do not think you can ever really protect yourself against future bathroom incidents involving pets, but certain materials make it easier to clean up. So, we do not do cloth fabric sofas. We like the idea of being able to wipe things off just in case the unthinkable becomes a reality! When it comes to carpets we go really cheap, I am talking Walmart’s 50 bucks cheap! It is much easier to replace a 50 dollar carpet than a 350 dollar carpet. Remember you are trying to have a home you can enjoy, but you are also trying to have a home that will not make you cry if something happens like an accident on the carpet.

We took three areas and turned them into safe areas for my children and pets. If you live like us, you can’t afford to be replacing stuff every year. While our pets are part of our family, we still want to entertain others who might not like the idea of our furry babies getting so up close and personal. So, the gate really does help to section off where they can roam. All of this was done under 4k.

Learning How To Add The Yes You Can Factor!

Sometimes it’s easy to get carried away with our definition of attainable. Perhaps, we were never told yes you can while growing up, so we do not know how to be supportive when our children need us to give those affirmations. To be honest, some of us might not even understand what it means to live in a world that showcases things as being attainable. So, let this be the theme of today.

Take it from Thomas Edison and perhaps my favorite quote of all times. “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Do not let a problem keep you down because there’s always another day. Earlier this week we talked about my car breaking down and how scary that whole situation was. There were times that I wanted to cry, yell, or even call the dealership and curse them out. However, my goal was to get home, so keeping a positive outlook was vital.

I have tried to pass that mindset to my children. It isn’t about how horrible things are, but it’s about how we can make them better. If we see our goals as attainable we will continue to walk towards them. I go back to the day I was in the living room with my mother. I was around the age of 9 and was mesmerized by anything with mummies in it. I wanted to be an archeologist and that is exactly what I told her! She looked at me and informed me that black people weren’t those things and to stop talking nonsense.

I wish I knew then the things I know now. Color does not define what we can and can’t do. It is the mindset giving birth to the idea of attainability. I can achieve this goal if I work for it, I will achieve this goal because I will work hard to achieve it. At lease that is the message I give my children. Today, I am happy to announce that my daughter has transitioned into actively working towards her goal in becoming a foodie.

What the makings of a dream come true below.

She’s even managed to get 2 subscribers! They are her friends, but they still count! Oh wait let me add one more to the mix! I forgot to subscribe.

The World We Knew

The World We Knew

We are living in a modern age that monitors our every move. If you have certain things in your house like Amazon’s Alexa, some of your conversations could even be monitored. With the new modern technology we are able to save lives and make the roads safer. This week we will take a look at some of the best new technology and we will talk about things that might need to stay in the science department.

Let me take you back 22 years ago. My husband and I were just starting our life as a married couple and traveling to a new location via a map. I’m not talking about a map on the smartphone, but a map made out of paper. GPS units were too expensive or unheard of for a large amount of people. So, many of us relied on pens and maps to move across the country. Years later GPS devices would become affordable and make travel safer for all. That’s right people, I am placing GPS devices in the category for making our lives less dangerous by omitting the chance for error.

The cell phone comes into the door some years later. It would come after the arrival of the cordless phone. The cordless phone of course was the baby of the famous ganny phone, yet that didn’t satisfy the need for newer technology. So, in walks the arrival of the cell phone, people no longer wanted home phones and answering machines. The first cell phones were large and ugly for the most part, but it provided people with a way to talk on the go and never miss important calls. So, this once much needed home phone that used to hide under covers, stretch into bathrooms, and cause fingernail hell soon disappeared. Look at it, that’s a phone.

Lets Cook Together! Maybe I’ll Learn Something New!

Lets Cook Together! Maybe I’ll Learn Something New!

I remember my mother once made this blueberry delight tart, but I can’t recall the name. So, this weekend I wanted to do something a little different. I want us to think back to our favorite childhood treats and share them. My mother isn’t living anymore so I can’t really give you details about the delight, but I can tell you about the ugly cake.

The ugly cake is also called the gooey butter cake. It’s rich and delicious with lots of butter and sugar. You take a yellow cake mix and prepare it as if you were going to bake it by the directions on the box. Then you take one stick of cream cheese, and a pound of powered sugar . After you mix all of that together you will layer it on top of the yellow cake mixture and let it bake for 30 to 40 min depending on the stove.

So, here’s the fun part. Post something easy and maybe we can all try something new this weekend. I don’t care what country it comes from, just post it and we will give it a go. You have to give something a try too! That’s how this works. I will open comments for this.

PC GAMERS And A LACK OF CIVILITY : ATLAS

Games are very popular today and people of all ages find enjoyment within their make believe worlds. Years ago when my husband and I started playing World of Warcraft we really connected with the art, adventure and storyline.

Later we fell in love with games like Stonghold, Civilization, and the SIMS. I found myself in dino heaven after we later found Ark by Studio Wildcard. However, there were issues that soon started to turn players off. There were too many players taking land and not enough room for players to really enjoy the game. Push forward to Atlas. It’s a cool MMO game that really gets your imagination running. I can be a pirate, you can be a pirate and we can all sing the pirate songs! Okay a little too much. Atlas is another game from Studio Wildcard that seems to suffer from some of the same issues. Atlas lets players find land, build ships, and live like past pirates. The players are able to find treasure and align with other companies.

It sounds great if you are into pirates, but sadly there is a downside. Atlas has some of the same issues preventing new players from being able to enjoy the game. Picture a vast amount of land with so much potential that soon finds a few companies who take over the land and prevent other players from building? There have been many players over the past few days that have searched for hours and they are still unable to find a new place for their base. It is a turn off for those who might want to come to the game and invite friends and play on official servers.

Wildcard could fix this issue by doing one simple thing. They could limit the amount of flags one is able to place without contesting. The land hoarders would then have to contest the land if it goes over the adjusted amount of flags. This is a new game and for new players to not have the ability to play or start a base because of a select few seems harsh. These server are all PVE servers and the companies in question, in regards to the land napping are on the Hydra Server. There are only 4 servers right now, and 2 area PVE while the other two are PVP. Perhaps, SW needs to take a look at what kind of behavior needs to be on the PVE servers and PVP servers.

BOBBY Of IKON, Blackpink, and Red Velvet Are On The Move Again!! KPOP is FIRE!!!!!

Music is about living and living is about experiencing music!  KPOP Dose!

So you guys know I’m a KPOP fan, right?? Remember when I told you about NCT 127 and IKON with the awesome rapper BOBBY! Well, NCT 127 is now in the Billboard count thanks to their new song. We have to give thanks to BTS for this explosion. Without their work and talent we would never know about groups like the ones I mentioned above and below.

Bobby in now on the “Rise Remix” for League of Legends and it’s FIREEEEE!!! I told you so!!! I love it when I’m right! Bobby is the KPOP rapper from IKON and it’s like I stated before these groups are on the rise. Not only are the guys doing it big, but the girl groups are making movement too.

We have Blackpink with Dua Lipa singing Kiss me and Make up

And we also have John Legend and Wendy of Red Velvet.

So, yes the predictions are coming true. Let me look into my crystal ball!! I predict more movement up the charts and a culture that not even Nostradamus could have seen. Music will always be the cure and the bridge for people across the world.

I will post some videos below if you aren’t familiar with the groups. These songs are my favorite.

Red Velvet Peek-A-boo -I love twirling to this song. Yeah, I know!! I’m how old again! Peek-A-Boo!!

Blackpink- Boombayah- This song is fire! It kind of has a Spanish sound to it, yeah I love it.

This last song is the song that introduced me to Bobby!- It really showcases his awesome ability to rap.

This song highlights his singing which is the reason KPOP music seems to be a feast for all right now. These rappers not only rap, but they sing. They are good at singing!

There would be no KPOP without the one and truly Bigbang. Currently four out of the five members are in the military due to Korean laws which make it pretty much mandatory for young men to enlist. That means BTS, IKON, NCT 127 might have members who will have to take time away at some point to join up and answer the call.
