We The Women, Can Right This Wrong

Dear Sisters,

I ‘m so grateful for you and your eyes. Yet, it appears some of you are taking them for granted lately. There are so many people that came before us with the spirit to make things better. I fear many of us have lost that, so I am at a loss. Some of us, let our husbands, jobs, and political affiliations define us. I know this to be true, because I used to let my once heavy burdened badge define me. I would like to remind you of one truth. We are more. It’s simple, and it only has three little words.

We, yes, I am talking about all of us. It includes you, me, and the lady walking across the road. It also includes the lady working at the local store, the one riding with her partner in the patrol car, and even the doctor working in the ER. We are more. However, if  some of the people who look to set us back get their way, we might not be riding in those patrol cars much longer. We might not be able to work in the ER much longer either. A lot of people would love for you to think Affirmative Action helps one group of minorities more than any other, and honestly, this rings true. Yet, I bet you do not know what group gets helped the most by Affirmative Action. Women gain more from Affirmative action than another other group due to the struggles that we faced in the past. Those struggles were very oppressive. Say that word again, Oppressive! We were oppressed inside our country and now some of us are running back to that oppression. The truth is, we are stronger than this, we win our battles with our minds. Our minds sent men into space.

Are, we are now and have always been relevant. There’s no home unless we make it, there’s no memories unless we help to provide it, and there’s no future unless we protect it.

More, we are more than our titles. We are torch carriers for the women who paved the way before us. The quest for our legacy danced into motion around 1848. After many years of climbing women took up and won the battle to vote, work, and say their peace. Most of us now embody that times 100, but some of us have forgotten. We are talking about women who were once deemed as possessions much like slaves. The Rule of Thumb is an oppressive phrase that was used to educate men how to keep us in line. Are we going to give them that weapon back? We are the mothers and the fathers in many relationships. We are the saviors and the educators that teach other generations how to become more. We are also so much MORE than political pawns. The only spankings I’m looking to get is the one I ask for,

not the one that the government forces on me.

This election year is like no other election year in recent memory. We are fighting for the right to continue life as we know it. If ever there was a time to bottle up that spirit of a united front, it is now. When the President of the United States can stand and laugh at a potential victim of a sexual assault, it’s time to wake up. Why is his presumed innocent more important than her presumed innocence?

I Love You Netflix, But…

Netflix has come a long with their programming. I’ve been able to discover some great shows that I wouldn’t have known about if it hadn’t been for Netflix. I’m a lover of British shows, Science Fiction and sometimes Romance with a splash of Drama. I super love Netflix Originals! So, I’ve decided to do something new with October. For each day in October, I will be watching a Netflix Original.

Yesterday I viewed “Hold the Dark” which started off interesting, but quickly grew confusing. I love Jeffrey Wright, so I was super thrilled when I found out he played one of the main characters in the movie. Sadly, I do not feel like the movie explained enough. The setting takes place in some remote village in Alaska. The imagery is beautiful, the actors and actresses are okay, but the plot leaves me shaking my head. I’m halfway wondering if there is a book on the movie.

In the beginning of the movie Mr. Wright’s character is contacted by a grieving mother. At that point the movie seems to be promising. It looks like we are going to see him venture off into the wilderness in search for a coven of wolves. There’s an adventure on the horizon that will yield answers, at least that was my thought. Then from out of nowhere the mother lets her secret out of the bag. There’s no explanation for her secret. Then the father arrives, and things get even crazier. He goes off on a rampage that doesn’t make any sense. I do not want to give the movie away, so I will not write step by step details, but I wouldn’t watch it again.

In the end, this original seemed rushed. The characters weren’t rounded enough for me to invest in them and the reasons behind the events didn’t make sense. I’m still trying to figure out what was the reason behind the events that took place. I wanted to like the movie because it was relatable for the first 20 minutes, but then it went to the left. So I would have to say “Hold the Dark” was disappointing, but never fear, I have a month’s worth of new programming to try. The Kissing Booth will be viewed next.

Are You Interviewing Your Interviewer?

  Are You Interviewing Your Interviewer?

Interviewing is something we must all do at some point and time. It doesn’t matter if you are interviewing for your first job or your fifteenth job. The interviewing process hardly ever changes. I have noticed one common mistake that people make when they are looking for a new position and I am not talking about forgetting the resume. By now it’s safe to say we all know forgetting resumes can kill a job chance.

Yet, the other mistake I often hear about is people forgetting to interview the employer. We are so worried about the hair, clothes, shoes and pronunciation of our words that we forget the most important part of the interview. Do we know the company and what that company stands for? When my husband was stationed in Kentucky, I interviewed for a correctional officer position. Now back then I was shy and awkward. Okay, I’m still awkward, but not the shy little lady anymore! After I got off the phone with the correctional department, I found myself energized. I jumped up and went shopping for the perfect dress, shoes and prepared my greeting over and over. Finally, the interview day came. There I was standing before a group of three older men. They told me about the position and how much money the position came with, then it was my time to ask the questions.

1. Do I get a gun?
Answer: No

2. Do I get mace?
Answer: No

3. Are they locked up?
Answer: You are all in an area together, but you will get a little walkie-talkie so if anything happens you can push the button for help. You will be in a room with about 50 to 100 men. This is a minimum-security prison.

4. Does that mean killers are at the maximum facility?

Answer: No. We have murderers and rapist here too.

So, by this time, I’m mentally halfway to my car. I remember them asking for an updated phone number and me stuttering something like I’ll leave it on my way out. After the door opened, I ran to my car. I didn’t walk, I ran. I still wonder to this day, if they had me on camera. I would probably replay it repeatedly just for laughs, but I’m kind of flaky like that.

My questions helped me predict a potential early job exit. It’s better to know what a company is about then to get a job and quit within a few weeks of working. It’s also important to know how your potential employer feels about children and parenting. Do you have small children, or do you have children with special needs? If you have either one of these situations, you will have to spend time at meetings and be on a time schedule for picking up your children. Make sure you think before you sign on that line. These things are important because the wrong job can cause a world of problems and those problems flow into your family. Make sure the next time you interview for a job, you have your questions ready. You want to know if the potential employer is a fit for your family, just like he/she needs to know that you are a fit for the company.

Fishing Boat

I'm trying to save up for the Pelican Predator 10'3 fishing boat. It's 849.00! If you know anyone in Texas who wants to gift a boat because they don't need it anymore, that would be even better. At this rate it's going to take me a long time to save up!!!

I’m sure by now, many of you have heard of the group BTS. They have inspired a movement as it seems in tweens and teens across the world. Yes, I said the world people! These boys are nearly a billion dollar group and I think it’s because they are selling love.

bts

My daughter explained ever so passionately that there is a difference between BTS and other groups. She stated that BTS teaches people how to love themselves no matter what. She revealed how upset she was after she broke up with her boyfriend last year, and how their music made her understand why the breakup was needed.

I now present you with Alison’s part two of her BTS Fan Fiction. When I was 12 I was playing with dolls, she’s making mini movies!!

Scary Times For Parents Equal Sleepless Nights

My daughter finally called around four this morning. Before she called I was getting in touch with everyone I knew. I finally reached someone who had been in touch with her 11 hours ago and he’s in New Zealand. Someone was finally able to tell her that we were trying to reach her. I don’t know maybe three days doesn’t seem long to some, but it was kind of long to me. With all the girls around her age coming up killed lately, it’s just a scary world now. I know I have male followers, and I don’t mean to offend, but there seems to be an atmosphere of just enough unapologetic men who are truly making this a scary place for our daughters. I almost feel like it’s open season on women and I don’t know why. We’ve seen two murders in the last month by two different people within 2 hours of each other. I can’t help but feel like these women are becoming products of their environments. I’m talking about the environment of harming and disrespecting women. I think respect trickles down and if you have someone in the White House who doesn’t respect women and he is a role model to some, then the disrespect flows from his fountain. Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but I just feel like we must be careful because the water’s compromised and I’m not talking about on a political sphere. I think we are looking at something that runs much deeper than Republican or Democrat. I’m an Indie so my views are all over the place.

In other news or moving on, my 16-year-old told me that someone has started reading all her stories on Snap Chat I guess that’s what it’s called. Anyway, I called it Snap Chatting and the children died laughing. I never claimed to be a social media expert. However, we had to have the talk. She was under the conclusion more like illusion that if someone Dm’ed her and happened to be famous that our rules would magically disappear. I informed her that she can’t accept DM’s from older people, and that if we find out she is chatting with this person, her snap chatting is gone. So yeah, we rolled from one situation right into another situation.

Friday is normally my entertainment day for the blog but given the events that went down with our daughter, I just wanted to update you guys. Thanks for caring and have a great weekend.

Throw back to our mountain adventure. Lessons learned:

1.Bring better shoes.

2. Pack water on hiking trips.

3. Maybe knocking off twenty of so extra pounds before the next go around will help with the rock climbing.

CfpOvraVAAALLHHgirls

Lesson Learned:

  1. Do not ever take children’s boyfriends on family outings.
  2. Try not to sit in a hole in a crater of a volcano for five hours mining for diamonds.  It was a little embarrassing explaining why my butt hurt to the nurse at the ER.
  3. We had water so we learned something from the hike and applied it to the mining trip.

If you would like to help navigate our next outing drop an idea. As always feel free to donate to the site if you wish.

When Disasters Make You Stronger

When Disasters Make You Stronger

It was the day after Christmas and a day I will truly never forget. We had just made it home and were unpacking our things from spending the earlier part of the day with family. My husband and I went to the store and then a series of text messages hit our phones. The first one said something about a tornado warning and then a few minutes later we got another about a tornado being on the ground. Nobody had ever heard of a tornado touching down near Christmas. My husband didn’t believe it until the lights flickered. I remember grabbing the girls, the dogs and rushing into our closet. I didn’t think we stood a chance in hell because the door wouldn’t close. My husband and I were having to keep it closed by pulling it shut. Then the first crash came through the window. I told everyone to just pray. If the wall came down, the door was as good as gone, which meant my family would have been gone too. As we started praying the objects hitting our side of the building seemed to stop. After the roaring stopped we walked outside and everything to the left of us was wiped out. After that day, our world changed.

This was our neighborhood after the storm hit.

While storms render us helpless, they also give us a new respect for life. You learn to enjoy each day and take new risk. This is us mining for diamonds months after the tornado. Needless to say, we didn’t find any. Yet, it was something we needed to do. Things may never get back to normal, but who says they can’t get better?

Space Force Under Trump-Flop/Or Not

First of all, I have to admit something to you. I’m a total geek, and I mean a total geek. I’ve even written a story about aliens. The Alien Recruitment. I’ve always wondered about life on other planets and gazed up at the sky in hopes of seeing a UFO fly by. I might not be a fan of Trump, but I’m so in love with the Space Force. I think there are a few good reasons for the creation of the Space Force.

Our universe has well over 100 billion, not million, but billion galaxies. There have been sightings of UFOs and proof. Due to all of the pollution and killing off of major species our planet will not last forever and finding another viable planet will help protect mankind. The earth has seen five extinctions that pretty much did a reset and those extinctions saw things happen at a much slower pace. We are now seeing things speed up on levels that have been unseen until the last fifty or so. We are losing species rapidly and that is a major concern considering the fact that it used to take species a lot longer to die off in the past. I remember when I took my Human Ecology class many many moons ago, and my research paper was actually centered around the 6th extinction. Things were not as bad as they are today. We are killing our planet. Cheers to that.

Just look at the weather and the natural disasters. I feel like Yellowstone will make a move in the future. I can’t say ten months from now or even ten years, but it is causing enough concern that NASA has started working on a plan to drill into the supervolcano and release some of the energy in order to prevent an eruption. There are concerns with this idea. It could harness the energy, but who’s to say it will not push the energy elsewhere? I don’t feel all warm and fuzzy about anyone poking around in a supervolcano. So, I’ve started monitoring the earthquakes and trying to follow the harmonic tremors in that area. These tremors kind of show up and make a big ole fuss before eruptions go off.  I get emails from the National Earthquake Information Center and I can tell you that there has been an increase of earthquake activity, and a supervolcano has been found forming on the east coast. What we know about Yellowstone is that if and when it erupts, America as we know it will be over. Trump seems to be very proactive, so if he is creating a Space Force there’s something behind it.
