There are so many questions floating around in the minds of many Americans today. Many of us have seen the decline of American values over the past four years. In many ways, we watched a novel written before our very eyes. Trump’s character came fully into view yesterday with no remorse as millions of Americans were glued to their TVs watching the assault of the nation, in disbelief.
From country to country, people witnessed Trump applaud his followers and excuse them for their attempt to circumvent the Electoral College certification. It was a shameful moment, if not the most embarrassing moment, caught on national TV for the entire world to see. What I find perplexing is that you still have people willing to take up for the behavior.
People should be asking questions right now. Why is Trump clinging to the White House like a person clinging onto their last breath? Why would Trump not move to protect the Capitol after he first found it was in danger? What was the plan behind this uprising? Why did he feel the need to herd a group of his followers on lawmakers on this specific day? It stinks of desperation. Just what are we going to find after President Trump leaves office?
I am willing to bet we will find issues with COVID-19, Russia, and other skeletons trying to beat their ways out of the closet. The scary part is that we have 13 more days before Biden takes over. For some reason, Trump is acting out in sheer desperation. Will, there be another attempt to overthrow the government, or will he calm down? I am not buying that he hates losing.
A little reflection! We have always prided ourselves on being the moral compass of the world. We have been so focused on looking outward at others and judging how they govern that we have let our leadership slip into question. We have multiple people serving in top government positions that protected Trump from the consequences of his prior misbehaviors.
His deeds were not hidden from the world or any of us. Senators and other members of Congress looked the other way, one too many times. While I am glad to see some of the Republicans finally starting to understand the error of their ways, I feel like their timing has put us in danger. Who knows what will happen in the next 13 days, and how will America survive Trump for the time being?
The COVID-19 tally for my family is going up. With the increase of cases, one thing remains clear; there is a difference in how people receive care. Right now, the tally for COVID cases in my family stands at 9. My sister had COVID with her husband and our cousins. My husband’s sister and her husband had COVID-19, which also bled down to their children.
Earlier this week, my daughter informed me that her boyfriend and his mother were diagnosed with COVID. I asked her boyfriend about their medication and found out the doctors prescribed Z-packs. I asked her boyfriend if he and his mother were prescribed any other medications he stated no.
Part of me wanted to believe that this was perhaps normal. However, I knew from talking to our family members when they dealt with COVID that check-ups were frequent. I told him about the vitamins that the doctors used to help our loved ones get better.
I do not want to believe that money plays such a role in how people get treatment for this virus, but it looks like money is a factor. You have two families of the upper-middle class who receive great care. Then you have a Mexican family barely above the poverty line that is told to go home and rest.
I would like to believe that perhaps there is something I might be missing, but why were these people simply told to go home and rest? Why are so many people told to go home and rest and later come back with raging cases of COVID? Just curious.
We often hear Trump talk about his similarities to Lincoln, but I wonder if people know just how similar he is to Hitler. History was one of my favorite subjects in college, I studied both American and European historical periods. In the beginning, Trump appeared to have some Lincoln similarities. One of the main reasons the Civil War was fought was because slavery moved into states that were free states. Plantation owners were slowly moving into states that were free of slavery due to the Missouri Compromise. When these plantation owners moved to free states (illegally) to take over land, they would force working people into poverty.
Obama and Trump both saw similarities to the displacement of American workers which is what prompted stricter immigration laws. Prior to Obama coming into office President Bush and President Fox of Mexico encouraged dealings which led the way for illegal immigration to boom in America. Due to the economic crisis that took over around the end of the Bush years, people were tired. They then voted for Obama because at this point, unemployment was horrific.
Obama worked on immigration issues and he also worked on getting some of the hardest hit industries back on their feet. By the time Trump came in office, he was coming into a situation that was already in its healing process. We had a lot of jobs that were open, but sadly not a lot of people were trying to get back to work. https://www.factcheck.org/2016/07/obamas-numbers-july-2016-update/
So, after Obama, Trump enters office. He continues to build on what Obama has already placed into motion and then he doubles down on immigration. While his talking points in the beginning sound a lot like Obama and Lincoln, his actions seem to take a different turn into his presidency. He wages economic wars with rivals and secures business relationships from abroad with various countries. Some of those relationships come into question because of his businesses. Trump then puts tax laws in place to offer relief to those who earn the most while placing boundaries between the poor and well off. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/29/trump-suburban-voters-will-no-longer-be-bothered-by-low-income-housing.html
As of today, we have Trump taking away unity training which helps to loosen the chains of racism and he has introduced a new form of History for our children. These are things that Hitler did when he was trying to perform a mindwipe on the citizens in Germany. If you are unfamiliar with the term mindwipe, it is a reset of everything you know. Hitler had his own group of people protecting his gatherings before he turned into the mass murderer we all know. Trump has also been quoted telling his Proud Boys to stand by. Trump is even on record talking about getting his own network together to go against FOX News because they did not spread more of his political messages to the public.
With all of these problematic behaviors, why were there so many people who voted for Trump? Could it be that we have a large number of Americans who want some form of a dictatorship? If we are not careful, Trump could send America to its first single party dictatorship which would shatter the America we know and love. Currently, Trump and his allies are trying to corrupt the sacred right of voting. They are using lies and anything else that they can use to have legal votes thrown out. A lot of the votes in Arizona that were labeled fraud came from military families that held that state as their home of record. Just a few articles to show you where we are on keeping up with misinformation.
Many of us have treated elections like Super Bowl games that pop up once every four years. Some of us gather the snacks and watch eagerly as the numbers run across the bottom of the screen. However, this election feels so different. The idea of food is totally nauseating right now because America is standing on the brink of chaos. This election will have lasting consequences that will either save or take lives. We either choose to heal America or continue to let our country burn. At this point we should be able to put down party politics and do what is best for our country. We look around the globe and other leaders are doing their best to keep their citizens free from COVID-19. However, our leader is spreading the virus by holding rallies.
He has placed his election about the health and needs of the country. This is something that he will do and has done frequently during his time in office. Once again this is not a Republican or Democratic issue, it is a Trump issue. As for the polls, nearly all of the polls have Trump lagging behind Biden, but the margin is starting to get thinner. According to The New York Times, Robert Cahaly’s poll states that Trump is going to win the states of Michigan, Florida and Arizona.
I would hope that living in a pandemic world would clear people of being afraid of seeing a woman rise to the number 2 seat in America, but I am not so sure. In the last 40 yrs every incident involving a female running for President or VP has resulted in failure for both parties. Perhaps with hundreds of thousands dead and millions sick, America will finally be able to push aside particles of sexism and do the right thing. There is just one question, is America ready to move forward?
