This Thanksgiving a lot of people will be spending it alone thanks to the current COVID crisis. Due to the isolation and economic situation that many of us face, I want to issue a challenge to those of us who might be able to make a difference.
While some kitchens might be closed off to the needy this holiday, there are other ways of making sure needy people get help. Sign up for your neighborhood’s Nextdoor feed and monitor the threads for people who are looking for help. We have started putting in extra time for our side cash job so we can start a little fund for those who might be looking for help.
Remember you do not have to set loads of cash to the side to help someone. In most cases, as little as 20 bucks will help a family of two celebrate Thanksgiving. Food has this uncanny way of making people feel better, so I challenge you to make a difference in your community.
You often hear about women deciding to have babies in their forties. I’ve never really held a position on it because I respect the fact that it isn’t my body. Some months ago, my husband and I started talking about the idea of adding another addition to our family. It sounded good in theory until he proceeded to make appointments.
About two months ago, my husband came home with this goofy look on his face and was smiling ear to ear. I asked him what was so exciting, and he blurted out that he had just finished talking to his doctor about getting his vasectomy reversed. I’m pretty sure the color drained out of my face because, at that point, extreme nausea started to set in.
We had talked about the subject in the past, but I thought all we were doing was talking. It’s like saying, if I had a million dollars, I would buy a house in Ireland. I do not have a million dollars, so the move would never move out of the fantasy stage. After a few minutes of watching him beam from ear to ear, I politely smiled and tried to sound excited. As the days went by, I started to get increasingly uncomfortable. I started looking at our 14 yr old, 18 yr old, and 22-year-old daughters. I then started thinking about how each pregnancy affected my health.
On the morning of his appointment, I remember feeling a near panic as he got in the car and drove off for his doctor’s appointment. I opted to stay behind because I didn’t want to see the doctor see the discomfort on my face.
About a good solid hour later, my husband arrived back home. He was upset because the clinic didn’t want to let the VA pay for his reversal. The clinic intended to bill him on his job’s insurance, while the VA would have made the procedure free. I felt a little relieved until after he got off the phone with the VA a few moments later. The VA clinic promised they would take care of the confusion with Scott and White.
A few days later, the appointment was back on. The night before the second appointment, I made up my mind; it was time to come clean about my feelings regarding having another baby. I explained that we had three great children, and I didn’t like being pregnant. I hated the idea of having another baby at 43, and I went a little deeper into detail and expressed the main reason I didn’t want to give up my current position as Sexual Goddess # 1 to being a new mom all over again.
Part of me felt a bit guilty because sex was a big reason I didn’t want to have baby number 4. Currently, we can have sex whenever we want, multiple times a month or even a week if we feel like it, but a new baby puts restraints on that. I know my body, I know my needs, and at this age, I am not looking to start over again with the birthing process.
I thought he was going to be hurt by my confession, but after I explained it, he saw my point. He called off the appointment, and I can now look at pregnant people once again without feeling an urge to run for the nearest exit.
We often hear Trump talk about his similarities to Lincoln, but I wonder if people know just how similar he is to Hitler. History was one of my favorite subjects in college, I studied both American and European historical periods. In the beginning, Trump appeared to have some Lincoln similarities. One of the main reasons the Civil War was fought was because slavery moved into states that were free states. Plantation owners were slowly moving into states that were free of slavery due to the Missouri Compromise. When these plantation owners moved to free states (illegally) to take over land, they would force working people into poverty.
Obama and Trump both saw similarities to the displacement of American workers which is what prompted stricter immigration laws. Prior to Obama coming into office President Bush and President Fox of Mexico encouraged dealings which led the way for illegal immigration to boom in America. Due to the economic crisis that took over around the end of the Bush years, people were tired. They then voted for Obama because at this point, unemployment was horrific.
Obama worked on immigration issues and he also worked on getting some of the hardest hit industries back on their feet. By the time Trump came in office, he was coming into a situation that was already in its healing process. We had a lot of jobs that were open, but sadly not a lot of people were trying to get back to work. https://www.factcheck.org/2016/07/obamas-numbers-july-2016-update/
So, after Obama, Trump enters office. He continues to build on what Obama has already placed into motion and then he doubles down on immigration. While his talking points in the beginning sound a lot like Obama and Lincoln, his actions seem to take a different turn into his presidency. He wages economic wars with rivals and secures business relationships from abroad with various countries. Some of those relationships come into question because of his businesses. Trump then puts tax laws in place to offer relief to those who earn the most while placing boundaries between the poor and well off. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/29/trump-suburban-voters-will-no-longer-be-bothered-by-low-income-housing.html
As of today, we have Trump taking away unity training which helps to loosen the chains of racism and he has introduced a new form of History for our children. These are things that Hitler did when he was trying to perform a mindwipe on the citizens in Germany. If you are unfamiliar with the term mindwipe, it is a reset of everything you know. Hitler had his own group of people protecting his gatherings before he turned into the mass murderer we all know. Trump has also been quoted telling his Proud Boys to stand by. Trump is even on record talking about getting his own network together to go against FOX News because they did not spread more of his political messages to the public.
With all of these problematic behaviors, why were there so many people who voted for Trump? Could it be that we have a large number of Americans who want some form of a dictatorship? If we are not careful, Trump could send America to its first single party dictatorship which would shatter the America we know and love. Currently, Trump and his allies are trying to corrupt the sacred right of voting. They are using lies and anything else that they can use to have legal votes thrown out. A lot of the votes in Arizona that were labeled fraud came from military families that held that state as their home of record. Just a few articles to show you where we are on keeping up with misinformation.
President Trump amplified false claims this morning about the software company Dominion Voting Systems. Their software was used in only 2 of the 5 counties that had problems in Michigan and Georgia — and in no instance did the software affect vote counts. https://t.co/XsAjNScsbWpic.twitter.com/uCgz8xIeVf
